Factoids #21-40

21. I love getting postcards.

22. Although I seem to have permanent red highlights, I’ve never colored/highlighted my hair.

23. I was painfully shy as a kid but was forced to come out of my shell every time my family was transferred.

24. I can wiggle my nostrils, but can’t wiggle my ears, or flip/curl my tongue.

25. I can make the thumbs-up sign with my toes.

26. I’ve wanted a tattoo of a cherry for years but haven’t gotten one because I can’t decide where to put it.

27. My hands don’t sweat. Ever.

28. I started wearing glasses in 2nd grade, was made to wear bifocals in 4th grade, and finally got Lasik in 2000.

29. I hate being picked up (literally). There was a time when complete strangers were picking me up and swinging me around like ragdoll. This was around the same time I was going out to bars a lot. Damn drunks.

30. I don’t like country/western movies or music.

31. I think Post-its are one of the greatest inventions.

32. My sister and I call each other “Stella.” It’s just something we do.

33. I snore, talk, and move around a lot in my sleep.

34. Flying makes me hungrier than usual and sleepy. I usually fall asleep before the plane takes off.

35. Pina coladas make my throat burn.

36. When I eat a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, I eat as much of the chocolate first then eat the peanut butter in the center.

37. When I eat a Twix, I eat the top layer (chocolate and caramel) first and save the bottom half with the cookie for last.

38. I eat Kit Kat bars from the top down by their layers.

39. Eating fresh spinach makes my teeth squeaky.

40. My favorite potato chips are Grandma Utz’s; they’re fried in lard.

51 Days Until Spring

I'm waiting for Disney on Ice to come down the street.
Say it with me: Hazy, hot, & humid.

Dilemma

To join or not to join. I've gotten more than the usual number of e-mails this week asking me to join Facebook. As some of you may know, I've been very resistant to joining Facebook or MySpace. I guess partly because I don't want to be found, and partly because it's just one more site I'll have to keep up with. What to do? What to do?

Le Weekend

Friday - Watched the nephews in their district swim meet. Randy had already qualified for state's in four events. Travis, who happened to be swimming in the same events and heats as his brother, qualified for regionals but missed the state qualifying time in the 100 meter by .01 seconds. He needed a 23.80 (or was it 22.80?) to automatically qualify for states, but ended up getting a 23.79. Hopefully he'll qualify at regionals.

Saturday - A discouraging 14-miles with the last 6 at goal pace. I managed to hit my goal pace, but was incredibly inconsistent which will destroy me if I try to do it during a race. That afternoon, Cupcake, Buttercup, Peanut, and Sweetie (a.k.a. BIL Joe, my sister, Steve, and I) indulged in an all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet in White Marsh. Oink, oink. To battle our food fatigue we strolled around Ikea before heading back to their place.

Sunday - Worked on Steve's website then it was time for crepes and an assortment of other breakfast foods. Headed to Lowes to pick up some blinds and then to HomeGoods to pick up a chair for my desk. I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing up a trial-run knitting needle case and knitting the scarf that I've been working on for weeks. I hope to have it done before spring.

Factoids 1-20

1. At 4’ 11.5”, I’m the shortest person in my immediate family. My parents are about 5’4”, my brother is 6’ and my sister is 5’ 5 ½”.

2. My biggest fear is being kidnapped.

3. Every year in school when we had to run a timed mile, I was always within seconds of not making the cutoff. I’d finish the mile gasping for air and wanting to throw up.

4. My timed mile at the end of last summer was a 7:40. Who says you can’t improve with age?

5. The only pet I’ve had since moving out of my parents’ house are fish.

6. Seafood is my favorite food. No, I do not eat the fish mentioned in 5.

7. When I was younger, I had a crush on Tom Selleck. But now that I think about it, maybe I just liked his car and the fact that Magnum P.I. was filmed in Hawaii.

8. If I could live anywhere in the world, I’d live in Hawaii.

9. I love making things with my hands.

10. I think vomit is the most disgusting of all bodily fluids.

11. I prefer hugs to kisses and think the world would be a better place if everyone greeted each other with a hug.

12. I think being kissed on the head/forehead is a sweet but that being kissed on the hand is manipulative.

13. I spoke no English when my parents and I moved to the U.S. when I was 3. My American cousins and I managed to play and get along just fine.

14. If I had to spend the rest of my life in one outfit, it would be my gym clothes. My second choice would be my bathing suit because that would mean I was somewhere warm and just didn’t give a hoot what I looked like.

15. I’ve never been stung by a bee or wasp.

16. Mosquitos feast on me. I suppose this is the world’s way of making up for me never being stung.

17. I was brought up Catholic but no longer believe in religion. I know it makes some people feel better, but it’s not for me.

18. I’ve only met two other people named Cherry. The first was Cherry Suzuki when we lived in Hawaii. The second was a friend of a friend who used to live in Leesburg, VA.

19. I have an alter-ego who I refer to as Rowdy Cherry that comes out when I’ve had too much to drink. I hear she's a lot of fun.

20. My nose is always the first thing to get sunburned.

Pandora

Our company was officially closed for MLK’s birthday on Monday, but a handful of us swapped our MLK holiday to watch the Inauguration on Tuesday. Anyway since it was so quiet on Monday, my cube-neighbor played DJ and introduced me to Pandora.com. Now for you hipsters, this is probably old news. But for people like me who have been listening to local radio stations over the web, it’s fabulous. Pandora is an internet radio station that lets you enter a song/artist that you like, and it builds a radio station for you with similar songs/artists. If you can’t think of a particular song, you can also pick from a list of genres. If a song comes on that you don’t like, just skip it. No commercials. No annoying DJs who attempt to be funny. No fee. No draining the battery on my iPod because I forgot to charge it and left the charger at home.

For Friday’s musical selection I decided to enter Sir Mix-a-Lot’s Baby Got Back. So far I’ve heard Funky Cold Medina, Shoop, and It Takes Two; it’s like a ‘90s dance party in my cube. Happy Friday!

Arctic Weekend

Friday - Stayed inside where it was warm and watched 50 First Dates for the zillionth time. I figured if I can't be somewhere warm, I may as well watch a movie filmed somewhere warm and pretend that I'm there too.

Saturday - Woke up at 6am to hear that it was 1 degree at Dulles. Joy. The temps made for a brutal 20-mile training run. When we started running, the cold air made my eyes water but the tears instantly froze to my face. I learned that running when it's this cold causes frost to form on your eyelashes so that it looks like you have white mascara on. In addition to being frosty, your eyebrows tend to expand in every direction so you can see just how long they are. Steve had perfectly round little snowballs at the end of the hairs on his goatee. Our bottles of water and Gatorade were frozen so it made for a long, dehydrated run. We managed to finish, but it probably took us 20-25 minutes longer than it should have because of the cold weather.

After defrosting, breakfast and showers, we headed over to my parents to visit. They're headed to the Philippines later this week and will be there until sometime in mid-February.

Sunday - Spent the first part of the day doing laundry and working on a scarf that I'm knitting. Went to Helen's to watch football and stuff our faces.

Yes, it has been a while

Friday - Ended the already long 5-day workweek by staying until 8:45 to edit a report on dynamic airspace configurations (wha?). I was NOT a happy camper especially since there were chunks of the report missing.

Saturday - Ran my first 18-miler in months. It was a long, slow run but I was actually looking forward to it since my Friday was so crap-taculous. Saturday night was my company's holiday party. I actually had a better time than I expected to. One of the guys who lived nearby decided to have an impromptu after-party at his house. Decided we were toast by 2:00 am and called it a night.

Sunday - Useless. Spent most of the day vegged in front of the TV watching football which I really don't enjoy watching.
